Here at Smart Start, we set up a learning environment that promotes learning centers, daily routines, small group time, large group time, and free choice time allows children to develop positive social interactions, practice problem-solving skills, and learn firsthand about the world we live in.
When children are at play, they are utilizing real materials to help develop language skills, experimentation and logic skills, self-control, and social skills as well as building the foundation for school success. For example, a child might build a police station out of blocks, or utilize different-sized containers to pour sand into. These early encounters help children develop skills in logic and problem solving while figuring out how to place blocks so the structure doesn’t collapse, and utilize the correct sized containers while measuring the sand. Learning through play allows us to focus on the child’s development, and at the same time, allow the children to enjoy learning.

Our curriculum identifies goals in all areas of development, which include:
- Social: To help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group
- Emotional: To help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have a positive attitude
- Cognitive: To help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings
- Physical: To help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do
